I credit Coffey's absence from the Oilers in 87-88 for the Calgary Flames winning that year's Playoff series against the intraprovincial rivals. I have no statistical evidence to back up this claim, whatsoever. But an Oiler defenseman did score the series winning goal for the Flames. Coincidence? I think not.
If anybody in interwebsland can find a picture of that fateful owngoal, please forward it on.
